What are timber pests?
Timber pests are Fungal Decay and that group of insects that damage timber in services such as Wood Boreing Beetles and Termites.
A timber pest inspection is a physical examination of the property to identify any wood-destroying pests or organisms. The inspector will look for evidence of an infestation, such as wood damage, excrement, or pest activity. What is timber borer?
Borers are beetles and it’s their larval stage, the grub, which causes all the damage. Some of these beetles are pests of trees or freshly milled timber. They lay their eggs in the timber and the larvae that hatch stay within the timber, feeding and causing damage until they are ready to pupate and emerge as adults.
What causes pests infestation in timber?
Areas that are highly damp and moist such as bathrooms and kitchens, always attract timber pests such as termites as they love damp areas. So, check for any damp patches inside your walls or leakages by using a moisture detector.
Are borers worse than termites?
Are wood borers the same as termites? Borer beetles and termites aren’t the same. Termites are much worse and more capable of causing long-lasting, structural damage.
Types of destructive borers in Australia
The common furniture beetle (Anobium punctatum) is one of the worst offenders in Australia. Unfortunately, it’s also the most common type of wood borer you can find. Powderpost beetles, also known as Lyctus borers, are somewhat similar to the common furniture beetle. Queensland pine beetle primarily found in south-eastern Queensland. Lesser auger beetle, European house borer are other common beetle found in Australia.
Timber borers control choices
We can use of one or combination of choices depends on infested items and its location.
- Replace of infested timber with hardwood.
- Fumigation.
- Surface treatment with chemical.
- Store furniture inside freezer for 24 hours.
